Nutrition: The Key to Healthy Linage

The benefit of eating healthy is not just for you alone but for your future offspring.

Healthy eating habits are not gender-based. Both men and women are to work toward attaining a good status nutritionally.

Fathers-to-be should obtain adequate nutrients from fruits and vegetables and reduce alcohol consumption. This is important in preventing damage to sperm’s genetic material which may lead to birth defects in future children.

The prior nutrition status of the mother is directly proportional to the effectiveness of the significant developmental changes that occur during the first few months of pregnancy.

Appropriate body weight for women before pregnancy is important. An underweight woman with inadequate weight gain during pregnancy will likely give birth to a low-birth-weight baby.

In the same vein, obese pregnant women are more liable to suffer hypertension and gestational diabetes than healthy body-weight women. Surgical intervention or induced labour may occur. Attaining a healthy body weight before pregnancy reduces medical risk.
